Chickens at Misty Maple Hollow

We’re a small farm specializing in rare-breed conservation, rainbow egg layers, and ridiculously friendly lap chickens that still pay rent 🥚

Our biggest focus is health and happiness – our chickens are our pets as much as they are livestock. Unlike large hatcheries, every bird here is known by name, handled daily, and is treated like the queen she is.

NPIP Certified – MA #1387

July 2026 Update: We are currently sold out of hatching eggs (except Cream Legbar) and chicks until September 2026. We do have some started pullets available – learn more about them here. Use the Order Request Form to express interest for fall availability for hatching eggs and chicks.

What We Offer

Hatching Eggs

We offer both local pick-up and shipping to most of the continental U.S.

We work on a pre-order system for hatching eggs – once you purchase, your name goes on the list. When your name is up, we will collect eggs for you the days leading up to your ship date. When you put in your request for your order, we will give an estimated time frame.

We ship hatching eggs Monday and Tuesday via USPS.

Chicks

We offer chicks mostly through pre-orders.

You’ll submit a chick request, and once we confirm your pickup dates work with our hatch schedule, we’ll send an invoice and place your chicks on the calendar.

Here’s our order request form.

In addition to pre-orders, we occasionally hatch small extra batches or will have extra chicks from our pre-order hatches.

When available, these chicks are listed on our Currently Available page and our Facebook page.

We do not ship chicks.

Started Pullets and Hens

We offer started pullets on an extremely limited basis. These are typically birds that we have grown out for our own purposes – for example, we grow out at least one batch from every breeding pen before we start to offer hatching eggs or chicks from that pen.

We do not take pre-orders for started pullets.

These birds will be listed in our Currently Available page and our Facebook page each week.

We also sometimes offer birds that we are retiring from our breeding program. These will also be listed on our Currently Available page and our Facebook page.

Our Breeds

We have a variety of breeds to fit all of your needs!

Not sure what you’re looking for? Just reach out and tell us what you DO know (size coop, goals of having chickens, what’s the most important to you, etc) and we can help pick out the perfect combination of chickens just for you.

Woodland Layers

Our Multi-gen Olive Eggers

These ladies will lay an assortment of colors that you find in a forest, from various shades of green (a light seafoam to a dark moss) to variations of brown and chocolate. Many will have speckles.

Breed wise, these are multi-generational Olive Eggers. We call them Woodland Layers instead because we don’t like selling birds called “Olive Eggers” that don’t always lay Olive. 🙂

Our goal with these are to produce hens with calm, sweet personalities that lay beautiful eggs, in a variety of colors. Some will lay eggs with speckles, some will be a solid color, and some will look like they’ve been painted with watercolors!

The birds themselves are a variety of plumages, from solid blacks, blues, and splash, as well as partridge, wheaten, barred, crele, and mottled.

If you’re looking for hens that lay dark chocolate eggs, but don’t care about them being black copper marans, we offer a chocolate egg layer only option from this pen.

Ölandsk Dwarf

Our super rare, teeny tiny landrace breed from Öland, Sweden.

Ölandsk Dwarfs are tiny true bantams, with hens usually 1.1–1.8 lb and roosters 1.5–2.2 lb.

Their eggs are just about half the size of a standard extra-large egg, which makes it easy to adjust recipes by using two instead of one.

Their petite size fits makes them super easy to keep in most backyard setups, and their outgoing personalities make them a joy to watch as they run around the yard. The roosters are docile and fairly quiet, making them easy to keep even if you don’t want a ton of noise.

Ölandsk Dwarfs are an extremely rare Swedish landrace breed, so keeping them also means helping preserve them and making sure we don’t lose them forever. Greenfire Farms, the original importer, estimates that the current numbers are in the hundreds.

We keep multiple pens specifically to maintain and improve genetic diversity, which can be a challenge with such a rare breed.

3-5 XS cream eggs/week

Tolbunt Polish

Our pretty birds with crazy hats

Tolbunt Polish chickens are a beautiful combination of a golden laced hen and a mottled hen, creating a beautiful brown, black, and white pattern.

Their bold coloring and fluffy “pom-pom” crests on their heads make them one of the most recognizable chickens you can keep, and they bring a friendly, curious energy to the yard. They’re quite docile and love people – they will follow you around the yard and will ask to be held.

Please be aware that their big hats can make it harder for them to see, which means they are prone to bullying from other chickens and are at a higher risk of getting taken by predators. We trim the feathers on their crests to help them see and only free-range supervised.

3-6 medium white eggs/week.

$60 per dozen hatching eggs
$15 per chick straight run

Cream Legbar

Our auto-sexing blue egg layer

A super quirky, curious and fun autosexing breed (this means we can tell the males and females apart at birth!)

Our flock consists of a cream rooster over both cream and opal hens. Chicks will all be cream, but some will be split-to-opal, meaning that if they were bred to an opal rooster, or a split-to-opal rooster, you could then get opal chicks.

4-6 medium to large blue eggs/week

Cream Legbar
$50 per dozen hatching eggs
$20 per female chick
$1 per male chick

Mottled Bantam Cochins

We plan to start sharing our Bantam Cochin flock starting in Spring of 2027. Stay Tuned!

Swedish Flower Hen
